My First Journey

I would describe Shamanic Journeying as a meditative, trance-like practice that opens a doorway into a deeper, non-ordinary state of consciousness. It’s a visionary exploration of inner realms, often induced by rhythmic drumming, humming, movement, or attuning to energetic rhythms — a way of seeking guidance, healing, and self-awareness.

My first experience with journeying came as a child. At seven, I would sit with trees, flowers, even a bumblebee, curious about how nature seemed to “breathe.” What began as innocent wonder soon became communion with the living world — a non-ordinary state that became my earliest training in Spirit. I share this story more fully in my book, HSP – Empathic and Empowered: Expanding My Perspective.

What is Shamanic Journeying?

Journeying allows you to shift into an altered state of consciousness where you can access both your inner wisdom and the spiritual realms. It is one of the oldest spiritual practices on earth, found in many cultures and adapted to time and place. At Living Soulfully, journeying is about developing your own relationship with Spirit and deepening your experience of self.

Through the steady rhythm of drum, rattle, or chant, the practitioner guides participants into active meditation.

In this space, you may:

  • Connect with guides, ancestors, or higher wisdom.

  • Receive insight and healing for current challenges.

  • Re-center your nervous system through rhythm and breath.

  • Discover new ways to navigate ordinary and non-ordinary realities with balance and clarity.

Shamanic drumming, in particular, is a rhythmic medicine. It can ground and relax the body, reduce stress, and even stimulate endorphins — the body’s natural healing response.

Shamanic Journeying Circles

I facilitate Journeying Circles (formerly called “Shamanic Drum Ceremonies”) as an opportunity to gather in community while being guided through your individual journey. Each circle may include Buffalo drumming, meditative exercises, mind-body movement, synchronistic breathing, and embodiment practices — all designed to help you release stress, replenish your energy, and reset your nervous system.

Guided by Spirit, I may also be led to use rattling, toning, or energy work during the journey. This is part of my medicine path, which honors both the natural and spiritual worlds as partners in healing.

Gathering in circle raises our collective intention and spirit for the highest good — as our ancestors knew, community itself is medicine.
